If you’ve been thinking about starting or moving to a self-hosted WordPress blog, you might be thinking that it’s going to be expensive. WordPress might be free, but the “self-hosted” part is giving you pause.
Here’s the truth: You can run your own self-hosted blog for about $9 per month. Or less.
- Buy a domain at Namecheap.com*: $11 (rounded up; domains are $10.87 per year). You’ll pay for this yearly, although I prorated it into the monthly cost for this post.
- Buy hosting: You can buy hosting for a year at Bluehost for ___. If you have an even tighter budget, you can pay for your hosting month-to-moth at Hostgator.com for $7.16 per month.
And that’s it!
Everything else you might want or need for your blog you can find for free…ok, sure, the free stuff might not work for you & you’ll want to spend more money on themes or design services or plugins etc, but technically, all you need in order to have a self-hosted blog is a domain and a host. And you can have both for less than $10 per month.
I’ll do a post soon on how to get WordPress installed on your new host & start blogging.
*You can of course buy your domain & hosting anywhere! 🙂 I just personally use & love Namecheap & Bluehost & Hostgator so always recommend them.
